EXTRATERRESTRIALS IN THE VICINITY OF ALTAIR

Aleksei Archipov, an Ukrainian scientist who works at the Harkov
Radio-Astronomic Institute, reports that he has detected
mysterious sources of radio emissions which have been confirmed
by numerous observations. These signals originate in the vicinity
of Altair and could well be a result of the intensive industrial
activities of intelligent beings. In that part of the Milky Way
there are many stars similar in color to our Sun, which means
that they are also similar to it in temperature and age. The
signals observed, coming from the star Altair, resemble those
emitted by radar, TV and various other sources of electromagnetic
waves.

According to the theory of the young scientist, the total power
emitted by an alien civilization at such a distance from us has
to exceed by over 100 million times the whole energy received on
the Earth from the Sun in order to be able to register it. Such
colossal amounts of energy could not be the output of a
relatively small planet like the Earth, since this would result
in an immediate ecological catastrophe. That is why the scientist
asserts that it is quite possible for our "brothers-in-reason" to
have succeeded in taking out their industrial zones to planets
far from their home planet by means of their more advanced
science and technology.

WONDER-WORKING MATERIAL

Yougoslavian Vida Popovich has invented "Vidasil", a material
referred to as a wonder-worker. The material is light but hard
and completely rigid; it does not bend; it is water- and cold-
resistant; it withstands heat of up to thousands of degrees
centigrade without changing its state and does not give off
noxious gases. "Vidasil", according to its inventor, consists of
limestone, water, quartz, flax fibers, hemp and asbestos. It can
be used for the lining of industrial furnaces, since it possesses
excellent thermo-isolating properties. The new material can also
be successfully used for interior decoration in hotels and
offices.

THE MAGNETIC MAN

This is the name given to Vassily Nikulich, a citizen of Maykop,
in the North Caucasus. He possesses the amazing ability to
attract metal objects. He can "glue" about 10 metal objects to
his breast - a spoon, scissors, table-knives, steel-rimmed
glasses, wristwatches, even gold rings, weighing a total of about
600 grams. This unusual bodily trait Nikulich discovered during
the Second World War when, seriosly wounded, he was sent to a
medical unit. During the preparations for the operation the
surgeon laid several surgical instruments on his breast and told
him to stay still. Meanwhile, Nikulich was forced to move for
some reason, but the instruments remained stuck to his body. The
magnetic man is now aged 70.

BULGARIAN PSYCHOTRONICS SOCIETY

In January of this year a psychotronics society was set up in
Bulgaria. By now it numbers more than 300 members. The society
enrolls not only ESP's but also researchers, scientists,
physicists, physicians, etc. One of the tasks the society sets
itself is to establish an institute for psychotronics in Bulgaria
and a "Man and the Future" Center which will integrate the
knowledge of mankind in different areas.

GENES AND OUTER SPACE

N. Shcherbak, a Soviet scientist, has suggested a startling
explanation for the age-old hypothesis about the extraterrestrial
origin of life. He has found some new and unusual symmetrical
structures in the genes which, in his opinion, could not have
originated in the course of natural evolution. According to his
theory these structures are a coded message by our intelligent
progenitors from the depths of the Universe.

STRANGE SIGNALS

There is a cave, named Kashkulak, in Kuznetzki Alatau, in south-
western part of Siberia. Speleologists who have visited this cave
have sometimes experienced a strange sense of fear, while some of
them have even seen human figures dressed in strange garments. On
examining the cave researchers found that optical illusions
appeared in one of the tunnels and that the geomagnetic field in
the cave constantly fluctuated. Strange low-frequency signals
were sporadically registered and their presence coincided with
the fears and nervousness experienced by all the people present.
Up to now the tape-recorded signals have not been classified as
originating from any known natural phenomenon. According to local
legends, the priests of the ancient Hakasas performed their rites
and rituals in this cave.
